Gaming has become more and more mainstream. It’s no longer a hobby (or obsession) for a certain group of kids who only hang out with each other. Gaming is much more accessible than it once was. Kids can play games on a computer, tablet, phone or a gaming console. As gaming has become more popular than ever, the games have also become more advanced and lifelike. In this post we’ll take a look at our favorite picks for Gaming PC’s for Kids.

If you’re interested in getting a gaming laptop for your child, check out this blogpost. One advantage to a gaming desktop PC (as opposed to a laptop) is that you can upgrade a desktop endlessly so you can always stay up to date with the newest technology and improvements.

Gaming PC vs. Traditional PC

Gaming PC’s are not necessarily more expensive than a traditional PC. The main difference is that a gaming PC is built with a specific purpose- gaming - in mind. What this means is that gaming PC’s have a dedicated graphics card. The graphics card is a major part of being able to play modern games on your PC. If you (or your child) is really only interested in playing Minecraft or Roblox, a traditional PC will be fine (We’d reccommend this one). However, if they are going to be playing any other types of games, a dedicated graphics card on a gaming PC makes will make all the difference in the world.

If you are interested in building your own gaming PC, we have a blopost for that. Building your own gaming PC isn’t as intimidating as it may sound, and you’ll get more power and more freedom for your money than if you get a prebuilt gaming PC.

Graphics Cards and Specs

Let’s talk about some graphics card and overal specs you’ll want to watch for when looking at a gaming PC. By knowing the specs you should watch out for, you’ll be able to find a good gaming PC even if inventory changes.

Right now there are 2 major brands of graphics cards: AMD and the Nvidia. At this point, Nvidia is the better option and has been for the last 3 or 4 years. They have recently released their new line (3090, 3080 and 3070). The 3090 will be the best GPU on the market. However, the 3070, which is the lower end of this line, is still better than the previous best graphics card on the market. If you are looking for more budget friendly options you can still by cards from Nvidia’s previous line and have a great experience. The GTX1660 from Nvidia is also a great graphcis card for a gaming. You’ll want to avoid the 10 series (1060, 1070, 1080, etc.) because they’ll be outdated soon. If you want to learn more about graphics cards, you can check out a benchmark page.

The other specs you’ll want to pay attention to are the CPU and the RAM. There are two major brands of CPU’s: Ryzen chips and Intel chips (i3, i5, i7, etc). The higher the number, the better. Ryzen chips have a slight edge over intel for gaming, but the choice mostly comes down to personl preference and budget. You’ll want at least and i5 or a Ryzen 5 for your CPU. For RAM, make sure you have at least 8gb or higher.
