The Drone Master: Chieu Tran

This summer we are offering our first round of drone classes with our instructor, Chieu Tran. Chieu has been teaching drones with his company, STEMdrone, for 3 years. He also teaches full time in Lamar Consolidated ISD. We highly recommend his classes, which you can find at

One class we are very excited about is the Code a Drone class, which Chieu mentions toward the end of the video. In this class, students will use block-based programming (like Scratch) to make their drones fly. As he mentions, in the beginning, it can be challenging to figure out how to code the drones to make them fly properly. But over time, the kids will get the hang of it, and by the end of the week, they will be able to fly the drones through an obstacle course.

One question we get a lot is whether or not it is safe to fly drones indoors. Unlike most of the drones Chieu showed in the video, the typical drone the kids will fly is made for indoor settings and totally safe to run into anything and it won't chop off fingers or anything. Plus Chieu and his instructors are very experienced with the drones so we are pretty confident that all will be safe in the classes.
